From Daylight 'til Dark

I've just returned home from three days in Williamson County, Illinois. While I was there I had the pleasure of manning the Heartland Outdoors booth at the Southern Illinois Boat and Fishing Show and was able to spend some quality outdoor time  pre and post show hours at Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge. From before sun up through the last dying rays at dusk, Crab Orchard NWR offers up some of the most spectacular scenic beauty and wildlife viewing  Southern Illinois has to offer.

Suffice it to say that Williamson County, in Southern Illinois is a outdoor enthusiast's paradise. No matter what your outdoor pleasure might be - hiking, photography, hunting, fishing, foraging, wildlife watching - Williamson county and Crab Orchard NWR have it all just waiting for you.

I encourage all  outdoor enthusiasts to consider planning a weekend getaway or family vacation  to Williamson County. A quick visit to the Williamson County Tourism's web site will very easily convince you that you outdoor experience can be nothing short of wonderful. The staff at the Williamson County Tourism office are always happy to assist those who have  with questions about the area, attractions, lodging and guide service choices.

Here's a look at some of the Mother Nature's southern Illinois beauty that I was treated to during my stay in Williamson County. These images will surely convince you that a visit to Williamson County should be on your agenda!

Wood ducks are just one of many species of waterfowl that can be found throughout the refuge

This is an especially good timeof year to see migrating waterfowl and other migrating birds dressed in their bright breeding colors and beginning their selection of mates.

Not to worry there are many opportunities for up close views of the wildlife as well
Plenty of these devilish little bandits to be found!

Nature and hiking trails are located throughout Crab Orachard NWR - but most favorite in any season is the Rocky Bluff Trail that features a 100 foot waterfall. No matter what season you choose to visit Crab Orachard NWR the Rocky Bluff Trail offers some of the most beautiful  examples of the Southern Illinois outdoors.

My stay in beautiful Williamson County was all too short, and I couldn't resist one last last look at Crab Orchard NWR. From daylight 'til dark it's place you do not want miss!
